Fisherman's cottage remodel - yorkshire coast
A thoughtfully reimagined fisherman's cottage, transformed into a light-filled coastal retreat.
Nestled in the picturesque fishing village of Staithes, this charming three-storey fisherman's cottage had lots of potential. Working closely with the architect, we provided specialist interior design expertise to maximise the available space, refining the layout, and carefully specifying materials and finishes that would enhance the property's natural light. The ground floor was reconfigured to create a seamless flow between the living, dining and kitchen areas. A new chimney breast was introduced to house a white log burner, framed by striking blue and white feature tiles. Bespoke panelled alcoves and integrated cabinetry provide practical storage. To brighten the interior, ceramic limestone flooring was laid throughout the ground floor, while the walls, ceiling beams and ceilings were all finished in a soft white. Previously dark timber beams were transformed, instantly creating a lighter, more spacious feel. A large distressed window mirror further enhances the natural light, adding depth and character to the room. An inviting L-shaped sofa anchors the living space and flows effortlessly into the dining area, creating a welcoming environment for entertaining and relaxing. A statement table lamp with a bespoke Sanderson nautical fabric shade balances the television wall, while the blue scheme is balanced by orange/red accessories. Playful lobster-print cushions were made to introduce a subtle coastal influence, perfectly reflecting the cottage's seaside setting. The finished interior is bright, relaxed and effortlessly stylish—a contemporary coastal retreat that celebrates its beautiful location while offering a perfect space to unwind by the sea.
